Preliminary Exercise 1: Barthes's theory of Denotative and Connotative signs Semiotic table pt 1 Week 9/19- 9/23

 

Intro Paragraph 

• The tree- The Druids (Celtic cultures) believed that trees or more specifically, oak trees have healing powers, and burning the wood would protect them from harm.
• Black cat- A black cat symbolizes wealth and fortune. There considered being very worthy and sensitive to their surroundings, which could be a sense of curiosity or even patience. Over centuries, there's spiritual myths. For Instance, spiritually a black cat means luck, fortune and wealth. 

Second Paragraph 

• Red Roses- Roses are considered "love or passion" because Romans would put roses in their bedrooms to symbolize love and beauty that Venus (a roman goddess) was known for. Also, in relationships a red rose can represent loyalty or commitment to a relationship.

Reflection Paragraph

In Conclusion, we analyzed the denotations and connotations of images. Such as, a tree, a red rose and a black cat.  This lesson was very significant.
